Pet Boarding and Grooming
"We Care For Your Pets!"
"We Care For Your Pets!"
Since 2003, we have been serving the pets and families of our local area. We love caring and connecting with animals and creating everlasting relationships. We provide care for your fur baby as if they were our own, and ensure that they receive the highest quality care while you're away.
Our staff members have well over 10 years of extensive cat and dog caretaking experience and take it very seriously. With years of service and hundreds of satisfied owners and loved pets, you can rely on us to care for your furry friend that will offer you peace of mind so that you may rest assured your pet is in good, capable and loving hands.
We are always prepared for any pet's needs and ensure that your pet will receive the best care and love with us. Their happiness, safety and care is our top priority and we strive to provide a service we would want our own pets to receive. We take the time to get to know your pet and tend to each of their personal needs.
Board your dog or cat with us while you're away or just need them out of the house for the day.
Full grooms, baths and nail trims for dogs all offered by appointment only (we do not groom cats).
MONDAY- FRIDAY, 9am - 4pm and SATURDAY, 9am - 1pm
We are not open for pick up and drop off on Sundays or major holidays.
We do not offer long term boarding (two-three week max to prevent kennel stress depending on your dog).
*Suggestion: Book in advance or tentatively! It's easier to take you off the list than to add you on! We fill very quickly for summertime, major holidays and school vacations - it's best to book as soon as you can as major holidays typically fill a couple months in advance. We do not charge for cancellations or date adjustments but we kindly ask for as much notice as possible of a cancellation or date adjustment.
Note: We do not charge you for bringing your pet's own bedding or food, for us providing beds/blankets or food, extra water, washing items, or giving medications. You shouldn't have to pay extra for your pet's basic well being, survival and comfort needs. Our board rate is a flat rate for cats and dogs and includes all necessary care and then some!
For Dogs: Additional fees would only include Playtimes and grooming services at your request.
Our boarding rate for dogs is $35/night per dog. For families with three or more pets together, we offer a 10% discount off of the boarding rate per pet. Pricing does not change for dogs staying in the same or separate runs and is not based off pet or run size.
Extras:
Individual playtimes are $7.00 per 15min session - offered seven days a week. This is not a group play session, it simply allows your dog time to run free outside and socialize with us. The kennel does not offer any dog-on-dog interaction for safety reasons - all runs and activities are individual and supervised.
We will gladly administer any non-injectable medications your dog may be on at no extra cost. This includes veterinarian prescribed medications in pill, drop or gel form, flea/tick preventatives or OTC supplements (eye drops, oral or topical applications are acceptable).
Note: We do not take diabetic dogs, any dogs requiring any other form of subcutaneous medications, dogs that have seizures and are on seizure medication or dogs on active chemo meds. We advise medical-boarding for dogs with these or other serious health issues so they're properly monitored and have medical attention readily available if needed.
Grooming services are available at the end of your dog's stay so they go home fresh and clean! This usually happens the day before or day of their departure depending on your pick up time. A bath or groom must be requested at the time you create a reservation to ensure we add your pet to the day's grooming list and have time to get it done. If a bath or groom is requested the day of drop off, we cannot guarantee availability depending on how many regular grooming appointments there are for the day (nail trims may be requested at any time since they're so quick to do).
Dogs found with fleas in the kennel will be given a flea bath at the owner's expense (we will inform you) to prevent spread to other pets in the facility. Flea/tick preventatives are not required but are recommended.
All dogs are to be 16+ weeks of age and have completed all series of booster shots. Proof of current Bordetella (Kennel Cough), Distemper and Rabies vaccinations are required to be emailed from you or your veterinary office or brought in to us prior to their arrival to ensure all requirements are met. Any missing or overdue vaccinations will prevent them staying with us so be sure we have up to date records!
As well as current vaccines, the state of Connecticut also requires that we obtain proof of your dog's current town license. Please have a hardcopy of the registration handy to email or bring in, we cannot accept just the tag alone.
If any of these items or others we feel will pose a potential safety issue are brought, we will not give them to your pet and keep them with your pet's belongings to give back to you at pick up.
Your pet's safety and well-being is our number one priority and we take it very seriously!
(See the "Can I bring anything from home for my dog while he boards?" section in FAQ's below)
Our boarding rate for cats is $15/night per cat. For families with three or more pets, we offer a 10% discount off of the boarding rate. Price does not change for cats staying in the same or separate runs and is not based off pet or run size.
Note: We do not take diabetic cats, any cats requiring any other form of subcutaneous medications, cats that have seizures and are on seizure medication or cats actively on chemo meds. We advise medical-boarding for cats with these or other serious health issues so they're properly monitored and have medical attention readily available if needed.
All cats are to be 16+ weeks of age and have completed all series of booster shots. Proof of current Distemper and Rabies vaccinations are required to be emailed from you or your veterinary office or brought in to us prior to their arrival to ensure all requirements are met. Any missing or overdue vaccinations will prevent them staying with us so be sure we have up to date records!
*Please Note: We no longer require the Feline Leukemia vaccination but we recommend getting it done as a precaution since we take both indoor and outdoor cats (booster needs to be complete to take effect).
Our day-board rate is $15/day per pet. This is just a day-stay in the kennel or cattery, meaning no overnight. We recommend day-boarding your pet if:
Boarding can be a lot on some pets so we want to make sure they're as comfortable as possible while they stay with us! Kennel stress can negatively affect your pet both physically and mentally so if you want them to be at ease while here, get used to us and the environment then we highly recommend day-boarding at least once or twice as their drop off date approaches to keep the positive experience fresh in their mind.
This is also a good way to get your pet out of the house if you're having company over, will be having work done on the house or just need them to get out of your hair for a bit!
Grooming appointments are offered Monday - Saturday.
Peak seasons such as summertime and major holidays book up very quickly so make sure you call to make an appointment in advance or book your next one at pick up! Saturday groom appointments fill very quickly as well and can have a lengthy wait as we're only open until 2pm - please book in advance!
We ask everyone to drop off at 9am and we will call you when your dog is ready. If you need a later drop off time or for your dog to be done by a certain time, please let us know! How fast we get them done depends on how busy the day is, if you show on time, their cooperation, breed/condition of their coat and what you've requested to be done. We always try to go as fast as we can but doing the job right means taking the time to do so.
Calling to book a nail trim appointment is preferred but walk-ins are welcome (Mon-Fri, 10am - 3pm and Sat. 10am-1pm). It's best to to call ahead to make sure a groomer is still in - once they've completed their grooming appointments for the day, they head out so we can't guarantee they'll be available later in the day. Appointments made after 9am are preferred to avoid the morning rush of arrivals and we're able to get to you in a timely manner.
We do not take walk-in grooming or bath appointments. We also kindly ask for 24-48hrs notice of a cancellation so we may try to fill your spot. No-Shows/Repeated cancellations are noted on your account - please keep in mind that our groomers work off commission!
*NOTE: WE NO LONGER OFFER ANY GROOMING SERVICES FOR CATS
Dogs are to beat least 16 weeks old and current on their Distemper and Rabies vaccinations for grooming services (booster series for puppies must be complete). The Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccine is not required for grooming dogs but is suggested. Proof of current vaccines are to be emailed or brought in to us prior to their arrival and when updated - please ensure we have current records so we may continue helping Fido stay fresh! Failure to provide current records will prevent us from providing any services to your pet.
As well as current vaccines, the state of Connecticut also requires that we obtain proof of your dog's current town license. Please have a hardcopy of the registration handy to email or bring in, we cannot accept just the tag alone.
NOTE: Elderly and obese dogs tend to have a very difficult time for grooming - if we feel your dog isn't able to handle the process, for their own safety, we will stop and ask you to come pick them up. Not only can grooming be a lengthy process but it requires them to do a lot of standing, changing positions to get the proper cut, etc. It's a lot on them and sometimes it's just too much, resulting in general distress. If your dog is elderly or obese and having a hard time, it's best to not put them through it and do your best to keep them clean and trimmed at home. We'll always do what we can, we want them feeling and looking good as well but their safety and comfort is our top priority and we simply won't risk it.
*Please Note: All grooming prices are subject to tax and may increase at any time to keep up with costs of products. Difficult dogs or dogs in severe condition may be charged more.
We strictly use Nature's Specialties brand shampoo in various types for both it's high quality and it's gentle, natural formula. We use what is best for your pet's coat and skin health but please let us know if they have any sensitivities or if you have any concerns such as dry/flaky skin, flea infestation or odor. You are welcomed and advised to bring your own veterinarian-prescribed medicated shampoo if needed (we will not use store/off brand shampoos).
We also sell smaller retail-sized bottles of Nature's Specialties shampoo for at-home use as well as various brushes to keep up on your home-grooming in between appointments!
It's vital to your pet's health and happiness to keep them up on regular grooming appointments as well as keeping up on home-maintenance like regular brushing. Get your puppies in while they're young for a "Puppy Basics" groom so they can begin and get used to the process! Depending on your dog's breed and lifestyle, professional grooming should take place every 6-8 weeks or every 8-10 weeks. Grooming too often can dry out their skin but letting your dog go for too long not only gives them an unkempt appearance but is incredibly uncomfortable for them.
Long hairs get twisted, matted and tangled, pulling on their skin that pinches and aches with every move and touch. Besides being painful, matted fur cuts off air flow and skin becomes greasy, infected, and smelly which ultimately causes skin irritation; dirty ears get infected and bothersome, long nails make it difficult and painful for your dog to walk and it's hard to find any lumps and bumps or fleas/ticks your dog may have that need to be checked out - a nasty ripple effect that can lead to other health issues and an overall poor quality of life for your pet. Please know what your breed's requirements are to keep them on a regular schedule (see "What type of grooming is best for my dog's breed?" in FAQ's below).
The longer you wait, the more work it is for us to get them to where they should be, the more expensive it'll be to do, and the more your pet will have to go through which is no fun for them or us - they'll feel and look great afterwards but it's a lot on them to both be in that poor state and go through the required grooming process.
We can't always give you the cut you desire for your pet if their coat is in poor condition - generally a shave-down or a shorter cut will be required to re-start the growth process at which point regular appointments and at-home care need to be made and adhered to. We do what we can with what we have to work with! Your pet's safety and well-being is always priority.
* We reserve the right to refuse/report grooming services for any health/safety reasons
* SEVERE CASES CAN BE CONSIDERED NEGLECT AND BE REPORTED TO A LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER. If you're having difficulty keeping up with grooming, veterinary care or otherwise - please reach out for assistance, help is available if you ask! Responsible pet-ownership entails keeping your pet happy and healthy, inside and out!

Both of these forms are required to be filled and signed for all boarding and grooming pets. Please let us know of any address, phone or ownership changes!

Nope! We do not require pets to be spayed or neutered to board or be groomed as everything is individual and they will not have direct access to other pets while here. We will ask f they are spayed or neutered just so we're aware and to take extra precaution when crossing paths with other pets and to watch for excessive marking to keep their area clean.
We used to own the doggie daycare directly behind us - however, we no longer own the business. It is now owned and managed by Danielle DeToro of It's A Dog's Life Doggie Daycare!
Your dog has the option of attending doggie daycare while they board with us but it must be set up and paid for through the doggie daycare prior to their arrival at the kennel. Groomin N Roomin only provides and handles boarding and grooming services. The daycare has their own rules, hours, pricing and requirements so you must contact them directly to set up an evaluation, get paperwork in order and to let Danielle or Mike know if you would like them to attend daycare while they're boarding - neither business takes walk-ins. The doggie daycare will not take any information or payment regarding boarding or grooming services just as the kennel will not take any information or payment regarding daycare services. Coordination on your part must be put in place beforehand (ex. you must inform the daycare of days requested while boarding and cannot drop off or pick up your dog from the daycare for or from boarding without checking in or out from the kennel first).
Doggie daycare is offered Monday - Friday whereas individual playtimes at the kennel are offered seven days a week.
For more information, visit their website at: https://dogslife-daycare.com/ or give them a call at 860.638.1184, Mon-Fri.
For safety reasons, we do not accept diabetic pets that require insulin injections or any other form of injectable medication. For pets with health issues or pets that are very old, we advise in-home pet-sitting or boarding with a veterinary hospital to ensure they have proper medical attention if needed - our staff is not medically trained to handle pets with major health issues however, we know what signs of distress to look for and will inform you of any concerns we have. In case of any medical or other emergency we will contact you or your listed emergency contact immediately. In the event of a true medical emergency, we use Pieper Olson's 24hr Emergency Services on Randolph Road in Middletown if needed as they are closest to us.
Of course! We provide all pets with beds, dishes and blankets (at no extra charge unlike some kennels) but you're welcome to bring what you'd like from home to make them more at ease. We will wash any blankets or toys that get soiled - large/heavy bedding cannot be washed. Some people will bring the entire bed, just a blanket, or even a used T-shirt to remind them of home - whatever you think they'll enjoy and be reminded of you!
We have a vast array of metal, plastic, slow feed and raised dishes so we ask that you leave your dishes at home so they don't get mixed in with ours or break. We have every size/type needed!
We DO NOT allow any form of rawhide, rawhide alternative, pig ears, cooked/uncooked bones or other types of occupying treats for safety reasons. Rawhide, besides being concocted of awful things, is an extremely dangerous choking hazard and real/cooked bones tend to break/chip on our kennel floors at which point we will throw the bone out to avoid injury. If any of those items are packed, we will not use them and will return them to you at pickup. Any other toys that get torn, broken, shredded or are/become too small will be put aside at our discretion if we feel they pose a hazard to your pet.
Toys are welcome to occupy them during their stay! We advise the hard, durable plastic type chew toys so there is no chance of breaking, choking, ingestion or other injury/situation. Plush/rubber toys are acceptable unless your pet is a shredder - then we advise to not bring those types of toys they can destroy and potentially eat. If your pet is shredding their bedding, that will be removed as well but they may still have the cot-style bed to sleep cozily as they're are shred-proof.
It’s best to place all belongings in a sturdy bag or waterproof container (paper bags tend to get ripped easily from constant use, each run has a cubby bin for personal items). If able, label as much as you can! Upon check-in, we will write down each item brought and will ask you details regarding feedings, meds, etc. but toys and blankets can easily get misplaced during cleaning/play, hidden under a bed, or confused with someone else’s if identical.
Food can be brought in a labeled air-tight container or each feeding may be put in labeled individual ziplock bags (we can save bags for reuse at your request). We do have measuring cups so it’s not necessary to bring one.
Medications can be brought in the original bottle or a labeled, air-tight/waterproof bag, container or AM/PM pill box containing the amount needed for their stay. It’s smart to bring extra in case of a drop or spit-out.
Your leash and collar will be put with the rest of your pet’s belongings. We strip everyone down for a commando stay when in the kennel for safety reasons (flea collars stay on as they easily release if caught). We will put their leash and collar back on to walk them up upon departure. To take them out of their runs we use our own kennel leads.
Yes! We believe everyone deserves a chance. Our staff is very experienced with all demeanors and there aren't many types we can't handle, whether they're aggressive out of fear, scared or just plain not nice - we're pros at reading their body language to determine how to handle them. We'll always give it a shot! If they are too much for us to handle in the kennel, we will inform you and offer other suggestions. If grooming is too much on them and they begin to lash out or show signs of distress, we will stop the process and call you to come pick them up. We will never force anything on your pet as we want them to be comfortable, to trust us and to have a positive experience with us!
Grooming can be a lot on some dogs and we both understand and take that seriously. Unlike a quick dip in the tub at home, there's a lot to it when done professionally! The process itself takes a few hours so if your dog suffers from anxiety or has health issues, please inform us beforehand so our groomer can be prepared. It may sound like a relaxing day at the spa but it can be an arduous process that takes time, requires them to stand for long periods, jump or be lifted up/down, and stay still while being worked on. Sometimes your presence makes it worse and more difficult for the groomers to get the job done safely and properly so we ask that you stay out of the grooming room and come pick them up when you're called. We can do our best to get them done as quickly as possible but it depends on how they handle it, how busy the day is and what you're requesting be done.
Clean fur is vital to the process as dirty fur can clog our scissors and clippers, tug on the dog and make it an unpleasant experience. Bathing them at home with a generic store-brand shampoo will not guarantee it'll make the process go quicker or more smoothly - it's best to just leave it to the professionals but we try to work with you and your pet the best we can.
We monitor your dog the entire time - older and overweight dogs will have a significantly harder time so please keep in mind that it's a lot on them and we'll do what we can without pushing them to their limit physically or mentally. We will refuse or stop grooming services on dogs we feel cannot handle it for their own well-being. If for any reason your dog shows signs of distress, we will stop immediately to either give them a break and then continue if we're able or stop the process completely.
Make sure your bring your new puppy to regular groom appointments as well as doing upkeep at home to get them used to the process and make it easier for them and us!
Grooming needs vary for every pet! If you have a long coated breed and don't regularly brush them at home, they may have some matting that will need to be shaved out and they may get a shorter cut than what you wanted. Some dogs just needs a quick trim, some just need a good bath and brushing! We will do what you ask within reason but keep in mind what coat functions are for your dog's breed.
Double coated breeds such as Huskies, Great Pyrenees, Border Collies, Retrievers, and others should never be shaved. Their coat acts as insulation for the hot and cold as well as protection from sunburn, frostbite and other elements. Shaving their coat negatively impacts them in several ways:
As long as you keep up regularly on grooming/bathing your dog, you shouldn't have any issues! The less we see them, the more work we'll have and the more they have to go through. Needs vary on your dog's breed and lifestyle - some get more dirty than others while some only need it here and there. Careful of over-bathing as it can cause skin issues and never use human shampoo on your pets!
